How to Fight Un-belief

2 timothy 3:16-17 acts 17:28 john 14:6 psalm 150:6 romans 12:1 Sep 25, 2024

Is it possible to be weighed down by the world, that we find ourselves in unbelief of the power of Jesus in our lives? How can we fight this unbelief that seems to creep into our thoughts when life gets hard?

In the stirring words of Acts 17:28, the Apostle Paul proclaims, “For in him we live and move and have our being.” This is no mere theological idea; it’s a radical affirmation of our total dependence on God through the redemptive act of Jesus Christ. It’s about recognizing that our very existence—every breath, every heartbeat—is sustained by a divine love that beckons us into a deeper relationship with our Creator. In this life we navigate, we find that everything flows from Him: our life, our movement, our very essence.

To grasp the depth of this profound truth, we must fight to commit to three practices: the choice to believe, the commitment to worship, and the dedication to studying His Word. These aren’t just activities; they’re lifelines that root us in the reality that God is the ultimate source and sustainer of all that we are and aspire to be.

1. I Choose to Believe

Belief is the bedrock of our spiritual journey—a conscious, audacious decision to trust in the promises of God. Paul’s proclamation, “For in him we live,” speaks to the abundant life found in Jesus, a life overflowing with purpose and meaning. Choosing to believe is about stepping out of the shadows of doubt and fear and into the light of faith, where we understand that our lives are not mere happenstance; they are intricately woven into God’s divine plan.

When Jesus declared in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life,” He wasn’t just making a statement; He was inviting us into a radical relationship. This belief is not passive; it’s an active, a force that propels us towards action. It’s a choice we make daily, to trust in the One who has conquered the grave and offers us life eternal life. In a world that often tries to define us by our failures, our belief in Christ sets us free, allowing us to step boldly into the destiny He has ordained for us.

2. I Commit to Worship

Paul continues with “in him we move,” and here we find the essence of worship—a lifestyle, a continuous flow of gratitude and reverence towards God thru Jesus . Worship is not confined to a church building or a Sunday service; it’s woven into the fabric of our daily lives. It’s an act of surrender, a declaration that every part of our existence is an offering to God.

In Romans 12:1, we’re called to present our bodies as living sacrifices, “holy and pleasing to God.” This is radical worship! It means that every act of kindness, every moment of service, and every breath taken in His name becomes an expression of our love for Him. Worship changes things; it takes our mundane activities into sacred acts, a rhythm of life that echoes the heartbeat of God.

When we commit to worship, we align our lives with the Most High God. We recognize that our movement through life—whether in our workplaces, our communities, or our homes—becomes a reflection of God’s glory. We are reminded of Psalm 150:6, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” So, we move with purpose, knowing that our lives are not our own but are meant to glorify the One who sustains us.

3. I Dedicate Myself to Study His Word

Finally, Paul asserts, “in him we have our being.” Our very existence, our sense of identity and purpose , comes from the life-giving truth of Scripture. The Bible is not merely a historical document; it is the living Word of God, alive and active, a guide for our journey. It reveals His heart, His will, and His unfathomable love for humanity.

In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, we’re told, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” To study His Word is to engage in a REAL relationship with the Creator. It equips us for every good work and deepens our understanding of what it means to live in Him.

As we dedicate ourselves to the Word, we immerse ourselves in the richness of God’s truth. We learn to navigate life with wisdom, and we grow in our understanding of who we are in Christ. The Word becomes our compass, guiding us through the trials and tribulations of life, and directing our path as we strive to live out our faith authentically.

I abide in Him and He Abides In Me

“For in him we live and move and have our being.” This declaration is a  call to a life rooted in the the active part of faith in Christ. Through His redemptive act, we are gifted with the essence of life itself. In response, we engage in the vital practices of choosing to believe, committing to worship, and dedicating ourselves to His Word.

These are not mere rituals; they are essential components of a life fully alive in Christ. Our belief grounds us in the unshakeable reality of God’s love. Our worship moves us closer to His heart and purpose. Our study of His Word shapes our understanding and propels us toward our God-given destiny.

This truth serves as reminder, recognizing that in Him, we find our identity, our purpose, and our very existence. In a world looking for hope and meaning, let our lives be a reminder that the  power of God resides in us, reflecting the glory of the One who breathes life into our souls. Let us live boldly, move purposefully, and be fully alive in the redemptive love of Christ.

Remember, when the fiery darts of unbelief attack and they will attack. There is only one word we need to recall the  power in us that can change everything even our unbelief,  “Jesus!”
