Happy New Year to You and Your Bible!
Jan 01, 2025Most Sundays, as I stand in church, I raise my Bible high and join my congregation in reciting words that stir my heart every time:
“This is my Bible. I am what it says I am. I can do what it says I can do! My goal today is to know the voice of God, to understand my assignment, and to walk into my calling. Now, if you believe that, say Glory!”
And with one voice, we shout, “Glory! Amen.”
This powerful declaration sets the tone for my week. It’s more than just words—it’s a reminder that the Bible is more than a book. It’s my instruction manual for life, my guide to purpose, and my source of strength.
As I think about the new year year, I can’t help but feel the excitement of new beginnings. I’ve set my heart on big goals: I want to lose the weight I’ve been carrying, finish writing my second book, and grow into a better, more faithful version of myself.
But then, I pause and laugh. Why? Because while I’m busy planning, God has already given me the ultimate roadmap to victory. It’s right there in my hands every Sunday when I raise my Bible.
The Bible: A Story of Triumph and a Mirror of Truth
The Bible is no ordinary book. It’s the living, breathing story of triumph, filled with hope and victory from beginning to end. From Genesis to Revelation, it tells us who we are, who we are becoming, and how we overcome. Most importantly, it reminds us that the final chapter has already been written, and in that chapter, we win the ultimate battle.
When you open the Bible, you’re not just reading words; you’re gazing into the mirror of truth. It reflects your identity as God sees you—chosen, loved, and destined for greatness. Despite the challenges you face or the lies of the enemy, the Bible proclaims this unshakable truth: you are an overcomer.
From the Beginning, a Promise of Triumph
In the very first chapters of the Bible, God declares His purpose for humanity. We are created in His image, blessed, and called to rule and steward His creation (Genesis 1:27-28). Even when sin entered the world, God immediately made a promise of victory:
“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)
This verse, often called the protoevangelium (the first gospel), is the promise of a Savior who would one day defeat the enemy and redeem us. From the very beginning, the Bible declares that victory belongs to God’s people.
The Cross: A Symbol of Victory
The Bible’s central event is the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through the cross, Jesus defeated sin and death once and for all. As Colossians 2:15 proclaims:
“And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”
No matter how fierce the battle may seem, the cross reminds us that the victory has already been won. When you feel overwhelmed by guilt, shame, or fear, remember Romans 8:37:
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
Revelation: The Final Triumph
The last book of the Bible reveals how the story ends—with God’s ultimate victory over evil and the restoration of all things. Revelation 21:4 paints a breathtaking picture of our future:
”‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
And in Revelation 22:5, we see the culmination of our triumph:
“There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.”
This is our destiny—victory, eternal life, and reigning with Christ forever.
Remember Who You Are
The Bible is more than a story; it’s a mirror that reflects your true identity in Christ. James 1:23-24 warns us not to forget what we see in this mirror:
“Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.”
When you read the Word of God, let it remind you of who you are:
• A child of God (John 1:12)
• A new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
• An heir to His promises (Romans 8:17)
• More than a conqueror (Romans 8:37)
The Mirror of Truth
The Bible tells the stories of the past, it is the guidance of living in the present and its a hope of a future. But it’s greatest power is it is a mirror of your truth.
When life feels overwhelming, and the enemy tries to make you forget your identity, return to the Word. Open your Bible and let it speak the truth over you. Let it remind you that the battle is not yours to fight alone, for the Lord fights for you (Exodus 14:14).
We Win the Final Battle
No matter what you face today, remember this truth: the battle has already been won. Jesus declared it on the cross when He said, “It is finished” (John 19:30). The enemy is already defeated, and his power is limited.
As Revelation 12:11 declares:
“They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”
Read your Bible. Let it remind you of your true identity and destiny. You are part of a story where good triumphs over evil, light defeats darkness, and God’s people reign victorious. In the last chapter, we win. And that victory is yours. The Bible is the greatest story ever told, but it is not fiction or fantasy! It’s a lifetime of stories about the power of the Holy Spirit using your Bible to break the fiction of your own mind, that you may see the truth of who you really are!
As we begin 2025, make this year the year you read the Bible, not just as a book, but as a mirror of truth.
