The Currency of Heaven: God is Not Interested in Your Money, but Your Intentions

When it comes to the Kingdom of God, we often confuse earthly wealth with heavenly currency. Many of us have grown up in a world where success is measured by how much money we have in our bank accounts, the size of our homes, or the status we hold in our careers. But God’s priorities are different—He is not interested in how much money we have; rather, He is concerned with how we use it and the heart behind its use.

God Looks at the Heart

In 1 Samuel 16:7, the Lord makes it clear that, “Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” This powerful statement serves as a reminder that God is more interested in our intentions than in the material wealth we accumulate. He doesn’t need our money, but He wants our hearts fully committed to Him and His work.

When Jesus saw the widow give her two small coins in the temple, He declared, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all the others” (Luke 21:3). While others gave out of their abundance, the widow gave out of her poverty. It wasn’t the size of her offering that impressed Jesus—it was her faith and her willingness to give everything she had, trusting God for her provision.

Money as a Tool, Not a Treasure

God gave us resources like money to be used as tools for His glory, not as treasures to hoard. In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus teaches us not to “store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

In heaven’s economy, it’s not about how much you give, but why you give. Your heart posture toward money matters far more than the amount. Do you use your resources to bless others and advance God’s Kingdom, or do you cling tightly to your wealth, hoping it will bring you security?

The True Currency: Faith, Love, and Generosity

God desires for us to use the resources He has given us to express love, faith, and generosity. 2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” Our offerings to God should come from a place of joy and gratitude, not from obligation or fear of lack.

Faith is the currency that moves heaven. When we trust God enough to release our resources, we demonstrate that our faith is not in money, but in His provision. Philippians 4:19 reassures us that “God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” True wealth in the Kingdom of Heaven is not measured by dollars and cents but by how freely we trust God to provide for our needs and use our resources for His purposes.

God Measures Your Intentions

Jesus cautioned against serving both God and money (Matthew 6:24), because money has the potential to become an idol. But when we align our intentions with God’s, money becomes a tool for good, a way to fulfill our purpose, and an opportunity to bless others.

Proverbs 3:9 encourages us to “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops.” Our giving should honor God, not ourselves. When we give with a heart of faith, humility, and obedience, we store up treasures in heaven—eternal rewards that far outweigh any temporary riches on earth.

Conclusion: Heaven’s Currency Is Eternal

At the end of the day, the currency of heaven is not money but the intentions behind how we use it. God doesn’t need our wealth, but He wants to see our faith, love, and trust in action. So, whether you are giving a tithe, helping someone in need, or using your resources to further the Gospel, know that God is watching your heart and will reward you according to your faithfulness.

As 2 Corinthians 9:8 reminds us, “God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” The true wealth in God’s Kingdom is found in a heart that loves Him, trusts Him, and uses His blessings for His glory.
